예를 들어 3, 4, 5월이 Eligibility Period라면 6, 7, 8월에 시험을 보시면 됩니다.

기간 연장 신청은 Original Eligibility Period가  시작되고 나서부터 끝나기 25일전까지 할 수 있습니다.

기간 연장 방법은 다음과 같습니다.

1. 시험일은 먼저 취소해야합니다. 기간 연장을 했다고 해서 시험일 등록이 자동적으로 취소되는 것이 아니며 주말을 제외하고 시험일 5일전에 해야 추가비용이 없습니다.

2. IWA에서 기간 연장 서식(On-line Request to Extend a USMLE Step 1/Step 2CK Eligibility Period)을 작성하시거나 Form 176을 작성하시고, 50불을 지불합니다.

재학생의 경우 Form 176을 가지고 학교 관계자의 사인을 받아서 45일이 지나기 전에 ECFMG에 도착하도록 해야 합니다.

원서 접수시 필요한 서류는 다음과 같습니다.

Ⅰ. 졸업생

1. 원서 (Form 186 : IWA 원서 혹은 Paper 원서): IWA에서 원서를 작성하신 후 Form 186을 출력하실 수 있는데 이것을 출력한 후 학교에서 사인을 받은 후 4개월  이내에 ECFMG에 보내져야 합니다. Form 186은 한번 등록되면 5년간 유효하며, 이 기간동안에는 우편으로 서류를 보내야하는 불편함이 없이 온라인 상으로만 접수가 가능하다.

2. Form 344 (Medical Education Credentials Submission Form)

3. Form 345 (Medical School Release Request)

4. Form 187 (IWA Document Submission Form): 이름 변경 (Form 182), Form 344, Form 345, EIC (Form 180)을 보낼 때 동봉해야하는 서류입니다.

5. EIC (Form 180): 여권이 없는 경우에 보내셔야하며, 각 Step 마다 한 장씩 필요합니다.

6. 최종학교 성적증명서 영문본, 한글본 각 2부씩(optional): ECFMG에서 직접 학교로 성적증명서를 요구합니다. 따라서 영, 한문 성적 증명서를 보내는 것은 optional 합니다.

7. 한글 졸업장, HAKSA Diploma 각 2부씩: 한글 졸업장과 그 졸업장의 번역본에 해당하는 HAKSA Diploma를 각 2부씩 보내야 합니다. 일반 영문 졸업장으로 보낼 경우 대부분 reject되므로, 반드시 HAKSA Diploma로 명칭을해서 보내야합니다. 학교에서는 이미 사용하고 있는 양식이 있으며 이 약식대로 진행하시면 됩니다.

8. 사진 3장 (원서와 EIC에 붙인 것 제외)

Ⅱ.  의대생

의대생의 경우 IWA에서 원서 접수 후 Form 183을 출력 후 학교 관계자의 사인을 받은 후 4개월 이내에 ECFMG에 보내지면 됩니다. 추가로 필요한 서류는 없습니다.

7년룰이란 7년안에 Step1, 2, 3를 모두 pass해야하는 룰입니다. 7년이 지나면 시험은 무효가 되며 다시 처음부터 시험을 치루셔야합니다.

그런데 7년 룰이 적용되는 시점에 대해 혼란스러워하시는데 ECFMG는 "exactly seven years from this exam date"라고 말하고 있습니다. 즉 처음 시간을 본 날부터 7년을 말합니다.

Tips for Residency Interviews:

What they are looking for:

Residency Program Directors are interested in your motivation for choosing their particular specialty.  They will also observe your level of self-confidence and your interpersonal and communications skills.  Other considerations are how well you will fit in with the residency staff, your determination, reliability, and your reaction to stress and criticism.

To do your best, research the program and hospital so you can answer questions specifically.  Read the packet of material that will be sent to you, locate the   program on the electronic residency data base (FRIEDA), and look for related web sites.  Interviewers will be especially interested in your knowledge of the residency training process.  Being well prepared will also increase your confidence level.

Possible Interview questions and scenarios:

Ø       What aspects of the program interest you most?

Ø       Tell me about yourself.

Ø       Do you have research interests? Do you plan to pursue fellowship training?

Ø       What books have you read lately?

Ø       How would you describe your personal style?

Ø       Where do you see yourself ten years from now?

Ø       What are your plans for future practice?

Ø       Presentation of a patient dilemma and solicitation of solutions.

Tips for Writing Your Personal Statement:

The personal statement is your best opportunity to give the program director a sense of your personality, history and goals.  A good personal statement can capture the attention of the interviewers and give you an advantage over someone with similar qualifications.

Ø       Plan ahead and give yourself plenty of time to write the essay.

Ø       Re-write the draft until it expresses what you really want to convey

Ø       Describe a related personal experience

Ø       Limit points to highlights that will reinforce the skills you need for a particular specialty.

Ø       Avoid being overly dramatic or comedic

Ø       Summarize your strengths and skills you bring to the position

Ø       Include a statement of your long-term goals

Ø       Let several knowledgeable people critique the essay

Ø       Proofread until you are sure of content and spelling
